Effects of treatment:
During treatmentMost people find the treatments themselves enjoyable. If the client allows themselves to relax then the treatment can result in a deep relaxation which is very beneficial in itself. Other clients prefer to stay alert and talk throughout the treatment. My personal preference when having a treatment myself is to relax and not to talk. I find this most beneficial but it is totally your choice.
Clients often mention being aware of colours during treatment, tingly feelings on neck, fingers , around the head or other bodily sensations. These kind of sensations are more often noticed if you are in a relaxed state as they are very subtle effects and easily missed. Yet other people experience images popping into their heads. My personal opinion is that when you are in a really relaxed state you sometimes become aware of these minute energy flow changes taking place in your energetic body and because mind-body-spirit are intertwined you can experience these subtle energy changes in different ways - physically e.g tingling, mentally as thoughts, images or emotion.
Sensations in the feet during treatment can range from a dull, bruised feeling or sharp, needle like sensations - mention these sensations either during treatment or afterwords so that these areas can be gone over again.
After treatment
The aim of the treatment is to balance your body and thereby allow your inbuilt healing capacity to function freely. In order to help your body's eliminatory systems it is important that you drink fluids regularly especially after a treatment.
Sometimes for a few hours after treatment clients report feeling tired, headachy or mention having to go to the toilet more often than normal - similar to the type of reaction you might have if you were coming down with a virus or a headache. This type of reaction is more often experienced after a first treatment and for that reason I normally give a slightly lighter first treatment if the client has never had a complementary therapy before. Should you experience any of these effects remember to take it easy, make sure you keep hydrated - drink water, juice, herbal or weak tea instead of coffee and rest for a few hours.
Any after effects should be minor and not of a severe nature. Therefore if you are are suffering severe symptoms at any time after treatment - it will not be related to treatment - if necessary you should seek appropriate medical advice as normal.
More commonly though you will not feel anything apart from being more relaxed and hopefully having a better night's sleep.
Many clients have conditions which have built up over a long period - with reflexology we hope to see an improvement over a period of a few weeks.
You shouldn't expect instantaneous results.
If after three sessions you do not see any improvement at all then it could be that reflexology will not be of assistance to you at this time.
It's not possible to predict whether or not treatment will result in improvement or not - the only way to find out is to try it & see.
